Client Work

Three lives, three sets of constraints, three plans that held.

Case 01

The regional traveller

Client Context

R.T., 44. Regional Commercial Director, consumer goods. Based in Kuala Lumpur, working across Singapore, Jakarta and Ho Chi Minh City. Between eleven and fourteen flights a quarter. Four client dinners in an average week.

Initial Friction

Three prior coaching engagements, none surviving past week five. Every program he had been given assumed a fixed gym and a fixed schedule, so a travel week produced two missed sessions, and two missed sessions produced a plan he stopped opening. Client dinners were treated by every previous coach as compliance failures, which meant four failures a week were built into the design. He described his own record as "good for a month, then nothing for a year".

The Calibration

Two-tier training architecture. Tier A is four full sessions at his gym in Kuala Lumpur during home weeks. Tier B is a 28-minute travel set requiring a pair of dumbbells or nothing at all, built to hit the same movement patterns as Tier A so a travel week produces no gap in the training record and nothing reads as missed. Nutrition was built as a dining protocol rather than a meal plan: a pre-decided order structure for the four contexts he actually eats in, which are Japanese, Chinese banquet, Indonesian, and hotel Western. Alcohol was written into the weekly energy budget at his real intake rather than removed, which is the reason the budget survived contact with his calendar.

Duration

7 months, ongoing.

Measurable Result

Body weight 94.2 kg to 83.6 kg. Waist 104 cm to 91 cm. Session adherence 84% across a quarter that contained 13 flights. No week in the engagement with zero training sessions completed.

Case 02

The executive with cultural dietary realities

S.A., 39. Head of Legal, financial services. Kuala Lumpur. Lives in a multi-generational household. Rice at two meals a day, cooked by her mother-in-law. Extended family dinners every Sunday and throughout Ramadan and Hari Raya.

Initial Friction

Told by two previous coaches to eliminate rice. She tried for nine days and stopped, because declining the food served in her own home was not a nutrition decision, it was a family one. The result was six years of starting and abandoning, and a settled belief that she would have to choose between her health and her household. She arrived expecting to be told to cut rice a third time.

The Calibration

Rice stayed. Every day, both meals. The work went into structure around it: portion anchoring by hand measure rather than by scale, so it is usable at a shared table with no visible tracking. Protein was raised at every rice-containing meal to change the composition of the plate rather than its contents. The Sunday family dinner and the full Raya period were written into the plan as scheduled high-intake days with the surrounding week built to absorb them, so the largest meals of her month were part of the design rather than deviations from it. Training was set at three 45-minute sessions, scheduled at 6:15am before the household woke, because that was the only hour in her week that nobody else had a claim on.

Duration

11 months, ongoing.

Measurable Result

Body weight 71.8 kg to 63.4 kg. Waist 88 cm to 76 cm. Fasting glucose moved from the upper end of her doctor's stated range to mid-range at her annual review, confirmed by her physician. Zero family meals declined or modified across the engagement.

Case 03

The desk-bound senior operator

M.K., 51. Managing Partner, professional services firm. Sixty-hour weeks, largely seated. Two prior knee surgeries, left side. Persistent lower back tightness. Chronic afternoon fatigue that he had accepted as a function of his age and his workload.

Initial Friction

He did not believe he had time to train and was not wrong about the programs he had been shown, all of which required 75 to 90 minutes, four times a week. He had also been given a general strength program by a trainer who never asked about the knees, and it aggravated them inside two weeks, which cost him three months and most of his remaining willingness to try. His actual constraint was not motivation. It was that no available option fit inside 45 minutes or respected a surgical history.

The Calibration

Three sessions a week, 38 to 44 minutes each, scheduled at 7am because his evenings were not reliably his own. The knee was worked around, not avoided: loaded hinge and split-stance patterns selected for tolerance, deep-flexion loading removed entirely, and unilateral work introduced from week one to correct a left-side deficit that was driving the back tightness. Nutrition was rebuilt around his afternoon fatigue first, before any body composition target, by restructuring lunch composition and moving the majority of his carbohydrate intake to the meals either side of his training window. Bodyweight change was deliberately not addressed in the first eight weeks.

Duration

9 months, ongoing.

Measurable Result

Body weight 96.5 kg to 88.1 kg. Waist 108 cm to 97 cm. Self-reported afternoon energy improved from 3/10 to 8/10 by week six, before any meaningful weight change. Zero knee flare-ups across the engagement. Now deadlifting 120 kg, having arrived unable to complete a bodyweight squat to parallel without pain.

You have already tried the version that ignores your life.

If you have read this far, you likely recognised at least one of the three failure modes, and probably your own week in one of the case studies. The next step is not a purchase and it is not a call. It is ten steps and a written assessment of what is actually holding you back, which you keep either way.
